Our bitch had puppies in mid summer so we didn't go to many shows for the rest of the year. However Basil took the RCC at Windsor on the 4th July under Dave Scawthorne. There were 8 puppies born and we kept a dog for showing.
At WELKS, held at the Three Counties Showground on the 25h April 2010, Basil took 1st Limit Dog and then was awarded DCC under Beverley Deacon. This is his first CC and the first we have won in Irish Terriers - we won several when showing Border Terriers. Needless to say we are extremely pleased and now look forward to the rest of this year.
At the National Terrier Show, held at Stafford on the 3rd April 2010, Basil took 2nd Limit Dog under Mr. Phillip Greenaway. At the same show the National Terrier Open Show Dog of the Year 2009 was held. Basil had qualified for this show with his BIS award at Lancashire Sporting Terrier. At the Lancashire Sporting Terrier Show, held at Bacup on the 5th December 2009, Basil took BOB under Mr. Stuart Cooper and then went on to take Best In Show under Mrs. Hilary Gilpin (Otterbobs).
At the PetPlan Junior Stakes Finals, held at Sandown Park Racecourse on Thursday 29th October 2009, Basil came 3rd overall. He finished top male dog and was only beaten by two top winning bitches. There were three judges, Eleanor Bothwell from Scotland and two foreign judges - Espen Engh and Kari Jarvinen. They all judged independently and their scores for Confirmation, Type and Movement were combined. The top 5 were then reassessed for "star quality" before the results were announced. After 14 qualifiers around the country, and some 1500 plus dogs shown, this is a tremendous result for our kennel - so we look forward now to the LKA and next years shows.
At the Northern Irish Terrier Society Championship Show on October 25th Basil 2009 was 1st in Limit Dog under Sue Seabridge, and then went on to take the RCC - his first.

At East of England Show on July 10th 2009 Basil was 1st in Post Graduate under Dr Alex Noonan.
At Welsh Kennel Club Show on August 22nd 2009 Basil was 1st in Post Graduate under Colin Powell.
Basil has had excellent critiques from all the judges who he has been shown under, however the critique in Our Dogs written by Jane Lilley after the Windsor show bears repeating here:
"Pratt's Terrijay Special Brew. Sensational Irish Terrier, who is so well made that he cannot stand badly. Has such a superior look about him, constantly alert and simply demands attention. Wonderful outline both standing and on the move, smart as paint and beautifully balanced, in the harshest jacket and hardest of condition. Masculine through and through with a well shaped head and dark expressive eye. Super sound and positive on the move. A great showman, who obviously loves every moment. Most impressive."
At Windsor Show Basil was 1st in Post Graduate under Bill Browne-Cole, but also won the daily PetPlan Junior Stakes (Dog) and then went on to win the final on the last day. The judge was Mrs. G. Jane Lilley, whom we would like to thank so much for this honour. We believe he is only the second Irish Terrier to reach the finals. We now look forward to the finals in October at an as yet unknown venue.
At Blackpool Show there were no CC's, but Basil was 2nd in Open and RBD under Paul Netherwood.
At Three Counties Show Basil was 1st PGD under Gerald Morris.

At CRUFTS on 5th March 2009 - Basil's final show as a Puppy - we are delighted to say that he was 1st Special Puppy and BPIB under Mr. Pat Dorrian. A great end to his puppy show days, and we would like to thank all judges who have thought so highly of him and given him these awards.
At Ashton-U-Lyne Open Show on 22nd February 2009, Basil had one of his best days yet, winning BOB and BP under judge Frank Kane. Then under the same judge he took Terrier GP1 and Terrier Puppy GP1 and finally went on to take RBIS and BPIS. He has had some excellent results so far, but this is probably the best, and he isn't quite 11 months old. Next stop is Crufts on March 5th - we just hope to have a good day, but it would be nice to keep the winning streak going.
At Deane & District Open Show on 15th February 2009, Basil won BOB and BP under judge Angela Cooke.
At St Helens Open Show on 7th February 2009, Basil won BOB and BP under judge Joe Ashe. Then he took Group 1 and Puppy Group 1 under Julie Williams. Another excellent result, but more importantly these shows are good training for the future Championship shows to come.
Another fine weekend for Basil! At the Bury Sporting Terrier Show held in Bacup on 1st February 2009, where there was an entry of 130 terriers, he won BP and BOB within the breed, but then went on to take RBIS and BPIS under Mrs. M. Barrass.
At Manchester Champ Show in 2009 Basil was awarded BP and BD (no CC's available) under Geoff Corish. Although there were no CC's we are delighted with this result for a dog who is only 10 months old. We now look forward to Crufts, which is the next CC show available for Irish Terriers.
At the LKA in 2008, held in the NEC Birmingham, Basil took BPD under Mr. Stan Brown. Here's looking forward to 2009, when there are CC's at a special Irish Native Breeds Show in Dublin on May 30th, and new CC's at Windsor and East of England. Happy New Year to all our friends.
